On a sunny morning of 26th September 2023 the students of the fourth grades of our vocational technical school gathered together at the SNP square. Since they are going to take their maturita exams in May 2024, English teachers Mgr. Alena Villigerová and PhD. Miroslava Kminiaková decided to take the students out for a guided tour round the centre of Banská Bystrica and Matej´s House. This has become a tradition because the above mentioned teachers already organized the same event last year and the students not only enjoyed it very much but also they were provided with a valuable material for one of the maturita questions – “Towns and Places”. And yet how different was it compared to last year? This time there was an English speaking guide so the students could listen to the information about our town in English.
In particular, they had a chance to see Thurzo´s house, Benický house, the Town Hall and learn about historical facts in Matej´s House which they visited. The students will also revise specific vocabulary such as mining, copper, crafts and many other expressions later on during their English lessons and thus they will surely find them useful and hopefully easier to talk about at the maturita exam.
Finally, it was a nicely spent time full of interesting information, meeting some interesting passers-by, dogs, etc.
